My little Makenzie just started kindergarten and needed some new clothes. Even though I am a very busy grama, I still wanted to make her a few things. After going through my stash of patterns, I showed a couple of them to her. She immediately went for the fullest twirliest of dress patterns from the 1960's.
Knowing that a fitted woven cotton bodice would not be comfortable for the active little girl that she is, I decided to just make a full, billowy skirt with a big pink bow. One that she can wear over anything, including shorts and leggings.
Knowing that children don't really understand that the actual dress can have a different fabric than in the picture on the pattern, I thought I would try to make it as close as possible since she really liked the picture.
As I was sewing this skirt, Makenzie "helped" by holding the fabric with me while "we" sewed, her hand on the fabric next to mine. Then she placed her hand on top of my hand, as I fed the fabric through the machine. She loved how the machine made the ribbon "stick" to the fabric. :-)
