After spending two long days in the shop. Today at home, I decided to go through and clean up a large lot of vintage buttons that I recently acquired.
People ask me all the time, "where do I find such things?" Well mostly, they find me. The universe knows that I will take good care of buttons, crystals, feathers, ribbon, flowers, sheet music and fabric etc. It knows that I will keep these things and many others, if good guality, from ending up in landfills. And it knows that I will share them!
So by batch, I always do things in batches, I sorted out the fabric and leather buttons, and most of the metal ones too, before I soaked them in soap and water in a large strainer over a large bowl in my sink. Swishing and rinsing handfuls before putting them on cloth covered trays for drying.
I like vintage, but I don't like musty grimey. If they get damaged in the water, then so be it.
After they are all on trays, I brought them outside on this gorgeous fall day to dry.
It's a curse really, but it keeps me out of trouble. (Or maybe it gets me into trouble!)
