The biggest and the best pin cushion is saved for last, although I reserve the right to add some more from time to time.
Purchased from the Vintage Clothing Show here in Saint Paul, MN a few years ago. I would guess that it is French, and from the turn of the century, (the last one). But that is only my opinion.
Tightly stuffed with saw dust, the yellow silk body, silk ribbon and lace are in very good condition considering their age and that they are silk. The cushion itself, without the ruffle is 10" square diagonally and sits over 4" high.
I found this wonderful yellow plume that just begged to be stuck to the cushion.
In case you are wondering about the amazing vase pictured in these photos, it is one of a pair that I got at auction a few years ago. Hand sculpted porcelain, marked "Paris"! Oh, and the flocked wallpaper is vintage.
I would love to see some of your favorite pin cushions, so my next giveaway will be this super cute, wool blanket felt pin cushion made on a vintage zinc canning jar lid.
I had wanted to keep this one myself since it is a lovely blue, but I would love to give it away to someone who posts a picture of their own favorite pin cushion as a comment! The only thing I ask is that you indeed have the pin cushion you photograph in your possession, (not just found on the web or scanned from a book). My staff and I will choose our favorite as the winner, on February 7th 2010.
So go take some pictures!
